OFFICIAL: Courtois extends his contract Real Madrid

Thibaut Courtois has extended his contract with Real Madrid, the club announced on social media that the 29-year-old former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has signed a new deal until 30th June 2026. 

 His previous contract was to expire in summer 2024. 

Courtois reached 100 La Liga appearances the previous day for Real Madrid before signing his new contract with the Los Blancos. 

His appearance in Saturday’s 2021-22 La Liga opener with Alaves was his first in his fourth season at the club. He has ended up nailing down the number one spot. 

The Belgian international goalkeeper has made 130 competitive appearances for ‘Los Blancos’ and conceded 125 goals. Last season, he made 51 competitive appearances, all of them as a starter. He played in all 38 league games, 12 Champions League ones and a Spanish Super Cup semi-final with Atletico Madrid. He conceded a total of 44 goals. 

Courtois signed a new deal at Real Madrid City and he did so in the presence of club president Florentino Perez. After putting pen to paper, the Belgian keeper received a shirt with his name on it with the number 2026.

Real Madrid’s official statement reads:

“Real Madrid C. F. and Thibaut Courtois have agreed on an extension to the player’s contract which will see him remain at the club for the next five seasons, up until 30 June 2026.”
