Gabriel Jesus has trained with Arsenal ahead of their Europa League trip to Sporting CP on Thursday.

The 25-year-old has not featured competitively since playing for Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar last year.

In December, the former Manchester City star underwent surgery, with Eddie Nketiah leading the line in his absence.

Arsenal play the Portuguese side on Thursday evening in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

It remains to be seen whether Jesus is deemed fit enough to make the trip.

Speaking before Arsenal’s win over Bournemouth on Saturday, Arteta said Jesus would have to earn his place back in his starting side.

He said: “It’s true now that we need to see when he gets back, at what level he gets back, how we’re going to fit him in, how we’re going to load him with minutes and in which games.

“Then, like everybody else, he will have to earn his place, but we know what Gabi can bring to the team, that’s for sure.”

News of Jesus’ return will be a significant boost for Arteta, who will be looking for depth in his squad as his side enter a crucial stage of the season.

Arsenal signed Jesus from Manchester City in the summer transfer window last year for a fee of £45million.

The league leaders return to Premier League action against Fulham on Sunday.
