Ahead of the mouthwatering Premier League clash between Manchester United and Liverpool on Sunday, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said his side are striving to emulate the success of Liverpool over the past four years.

Since Man United last won a trophy – the Europa League in 2017 – Liverpool have won the Champions League and the Premier League.

Also, Solskjaer as United manager has yet to beat Liverpool in the league. His side lost 4-2 to Liverpool at Old Trafford back in May – their most recent meeting.

“It’s going to take everything to get a result against one of the best teams in Europe and the world,” the Norwegian said.

“And Liverpool are one of those. They are one of the teams we are trying to chase because what they have done in the last four years is something we are striving towards and go past them.

“We did end up above them last season, but they had a very bad spell of injuries and now they are back to their best.”

Last season United finished second – five points above Liverpool, who were third. This season, the Reds have been impressive so far – they’re yet to lose a game and are just a point behind leaders Chelsea, while United are sixth – five points off the top.
