‘He makes the difference’ – Nigeria’s Osimhen wins Serie A Player of the Month award for September

Nigeria international and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has won the Italian Serie A Player of the Month award for September, following his outstanding start to the season.

The Nigerian beat Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, AC Milan’s Brahim Diaz and Fiorentina’s Giacomo Bonaventura to the award organised by the Italian Footballers’ Association.

“Osimhen won with more than half of the total votes,” read a statement from the AIC.

The 22-year-old had began the 2021/22 season on a disappointing note after he was red-carded in his opening league game against Venezia.

However, he returned with a bang, scoring seven goals in six matches across all competitions for Napoli in September, including four in the Serie A.

Napoli are top of the league table with a 100% winning record (21 points from 7 fixtures).

“Despite some inaccuracies, Victor Osimhen makes the difference thanks to that desire, that hunger, that anger, which seems to push him, blow him from behind like a wind always in his favour,” the AIC said.

Osimhen is currently on international duty for Nigeria after which he will return to Italy to lead Napoli’s frontline as they play host to Torino on October 17.
