Chelsea compound Southampton misery with solid display at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea produced a strong display at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to beat Southampton 3–1 and go top of the Premier League table.

Southampton, meanwhile, are yet to win a Premier League match this season.

The Blues came into Saturday’s game on the back of two consecutive losses across all competitions but goals from Trevoh Chalobah, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell ensured a return to winning ways.

Southampton had leveled matters in the 61st minute after captain James Ward-Prowse converted from the penalty spot but the midfielder went from hero to villain as he was red-carded in the 77th minute for a challenge on Jorginho.
