South African journalist Marawa furious as Bafana Bafana fail to qualify for AFCON21

The Bafana Bafana of South Africa will play no part in the AFCON 2021 coming up in Cameroon next January after a 2-0 defeat to Sudan.

The win put Sudan second in group C with 12 points, one point behind table toppers Black Stars of Ghana who have 13 points. South Africa finish third with 10 points and Sao Tome and Principe got no points at all.

The failure sparked reaction from many South Africans on social media, most notably football journalist Robert Marawa who tagged the situation a “dismal sorry tale”.

Bafana Bafana have failed to qualify for four of the last seven AFCON tournaments 2010, 2012, 2017 & 2021, having qualified for seven in a row between 1996 and 2008.

Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon (Hosts),  Comoros, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, The Gambia, Tunisia and Zimbabwe have all qualified.
