We trained under moonlight in Benin, says Rohr

The Super Eagles cruised into Benin Republic via ferry ahead of their game on Saturday and on arrival at the Golden Tulip Hotel, he spoke to the Super Eagles media on the journey, team fitness and expectations for the match.

On the journey, he said: “It was a very special journey, you were with us, you saw it, it was nice but not easy, we had some problems but we arrived well.”

The team arrived late due to some undisclosed problems and trained under the moonlight because the stadium where they trained has broken lights.

“Even though it was very late, we could still do a training session, even though there was no light, the light was broken but we handled it, there was the full moon.” he said.

The players have been speaking on the past experiences of the Sierra Leone match. Captain Ahmed Musa, William Troost-Ekong, Alex Iwobi amongst others have spoken.

Rohr accepts it’s going to be a tough match but the harmony and positivity in the team gives them confidence to approach the match.

“I feel harmony within my team,” he said. “Even though there are some problems, we are always positive and we want to accept the good challenge of winning here tomorrow.

“They haven’t lost a match in eight years, we want to do that but we know that with a draw we’d have the ticket for the AFCON, it is our first target so later we’d speak about the second match. Everybody is fit, no injuries and I hope we can do what we want to do.”

A draw is enough to see the Eagles through regardless of the result between Sierra Leone and Lesotho but could also make do with the result of the match, a stalemate in it means the Eagles go through even before kicking the ball.
