Anthony Ujah’s Chinese adventure ends, signs for Mainz 05

Nigerian Anthony Ujah has completed a move to Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, The Bundesliga club announced on its website. The 27-year-old attacker signed a contract with the Bundesliga club on Wednesday for three and a half years until summer 2021.

Ujah who recently played in China for Liaoning Whowin scoring a total of 10 goals in 39 games in one season, returns to Germany after a season in the Chinese Super League. In 2012 Ujah moved to 1. FC Cologne, where he spent in three years (two seasons in the second division) and a one year in the Bundesliga. In 102 competitive matches, Ujah scored 36 goals. In the 2015/16 season he played for SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga (37 competitive games, 14 goals).

Ujah played for Mainz during the 2011/2012 season scoring 2 goals in 19 appearances.

Rouven Schröder, Sports Director, says: “Anthony Ujah is an athletic, determined and strong attacker who has proved his qualities at the Bundesliga level and adds real value to our squad, and he is a great character and will not be due to his Mainz past We need to make sure that he has decided on a future at Mainz 05. ”

Ujah, who just got married to his fiancee in Nigeria said after signing his contract: “I am very happy that I returned to Mainz because, I have only good memories of my time here, I am looking forward to the Bundesliga as well and I want to help the team from the second half of the season to reach.”
