Odion Ighalo joined the Super Eagles at the training camp in Morocco on Thursday ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Liberia on Saturday.

The former Manchester United forward says he’s happy to be back in the team and is looking forward to meeting the rest of his teammates in training.

“I am happy to be back. It’s been long – 2 years plus,” Ighalo, who now plays for Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia, told NFF TV. “Good to see some of the guys. I’ve seen [William Troost-Ekong] Ekong my strong man, hopefully, I’ll see the other guys later in training.”

Ighalo had quit the Super Eagles after finishing as top scorer at the 2019 African Cup of Nations. He was named in the 24-man squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde, with the Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, saying Ighalo’s experience is needed in the squad.

The 32-year-old striker has scored nine goals in 11 top-flight games for Al-Shabab this season.

Ighalo made his debut for Nigeria in March 2015 and has netted 16 times in 35 appearances for the national team.
