Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has said manager Diego Simeone has something very few coaches have.

Oblak said this talking about the importance of Simeone in the current version of the team in an interview with Marca ahead of the Madrid Derby on Saturday;

“Yes, after so many years here he is showing that he has something that few coaches have. To stay in one place for so long, that the players follow you,” the Slovenian said.

Diego Simeone has been at Atletico Madrid since 2011 and has won every trophy available with only the UEFA Champions League eluding him, losing two finals to Real Madrid.

Oblak sitting down disappointed after conceding a late goal against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

He’s the only manager to break the duopoly of Barcelona or Real Madrid and win the La Liga title since he arrived.

“That every year you fight for trophies is not easy to achieve. Surely that speaks well of him, he is doing everything to improve players who come and make them a better player.

“It is being noticed on the pitch. I’m sure that with Simeone we are doing well, and we have the chance to aspire to important things.”

Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and is funnily regarded by football fans in Nigeria as a goalkeeper with “four hands” because of his ability to pull off great saves.

He is one of the final three nominees for the FIFA Best Award goalkeeper of the year.
