Chelsea have hired All Blacks leadership manager and mental skills coach Gilbert Enoka in a short-term consultancy role.

Gilbert Enoka, the All Blacks coach who instituted what he called a “no dickheads policy” in the New Zealand setup, has joined Chelsea as a temporary consultant, the rugby team announced on Tuesday.

Since 2000, Enoka has played a variety of roles for the All Blacks. After 15 years as their mental skills coach, he has spent the last seven years in that position.

The 57-year-old was a member of the coaching staff when New Zealand won the Rugby World Cup in 2011 and 2015.

The former PE instructor worked with the nation’s cricket squad for six years and its netball team for three years as a mental skills coach.

His first football job will be a short consulting position with Chelsea.

Enoka will concentrate on fostering team culture and integrating the various newcomers who have joined manager Graham Potter’s squad over the past six weeks.

The ninth-placed Stamford Bridge club spent approximately £300 million on eight new players in January.

Gilbert Enoka, who has worked with the All Blacks since 2000, is hired by the club on a temporary consulting basis.

Chelsea are ninth in the Premier League and face West Ham away on Saturday.
