Sadio Mane helps childhood friend secure contract at Bayern Munich

Senegal star forward Sadio Mane joined Bayern Munich from Liverpool this summer after hugely successful years in England, but he didn’t go alone.

The talented Senegalese took his friend Desire Segbe along with him to Germany and helped him secure a contract with Bayern Munich’s second team.

Mane’s inspirational climb to the top of the football ladder has always been alongside his childhood bestfriend Désiré Segbé Azankpo.

Both players began their careers at Generation Foot Academy in Senegal, but ended up having different trajectories in the sport.

Mané and Désiré Segbé first met after the Benin striker was scouted and sent to Senegal to join the winger at Generation Football. But Mane would leave for France as the Academy’s first product to join FC Metz.

Mane, while at Metz, requested the club to bring Segbe to France. Metz gave the Beninese the opportunity to come for trials where he joined the B team.

Mane will later on move to Austria to join Red Bull Salzburg, while Segbe remained in France.

However, the duo reunited again as Segbé joined Oldham Athletic in 2019 while Sadio Mane was playing for Liverpool. Mane had been in England for years before the arrival of his friend, and both men shared accommodation in England.

Mane’s successful spell in England saw him leave in the summer to join Bayern, but Segbe had already left for France, where he spent the last year at Dunkerque.

Désiré Segbé has been clubless since leaving USL Dunkerque in July, but reports say Mané has helped his friend get a contract at Bayern Munich’s second team.

The two-time Africa player of the year winner joined Bayern Munich in the summer and during his unveiling and first practice, Segbe was with him.

Mane reportedly put in some good words for the striker, and Bayern handed the 29-year-old a deal.
