Klopp says Aston Villa boss Gerrard will take final match against Man City ‘seriously’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard will take his side’s game against Manchester City on the last day of the Premier League season seriously.

Liverpool are a point behind leaders Man City, with a game to go. The Reds face Wolves, while City take on Aston Villa, who are managed by former Liverpool captain Gerrard.

Liverpool will need to beat Wolves and hope City drop points against Villa. On Gerrard potentially helping the Reds secure the title, Klopp said:

“If I could play a game to help Dortmund or Mainz it would mean for me an extra motivation.

“But I’m not playing and Stevie isn’t playing. It is a shame that Stevie is not playing more than I am not playing.

“We’re all human beings. Stevie will take it seriously without me calling him or whatever. Probably the rest of the club has done already, but I didn’t.”
