Maduka Okoye makes Super Eagles return for Mexico, Ecuador friendlies

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has returned to the Super Eagles squad for the international friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador in May and June.

Okoye had, due to Covid-19, pulled out of the Super Eagles squad that faced Ghana in the second leg of their World Cup playoff tie in Abuja in March.

Okoye, who plays club football for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch top division, is joined by 29 other players, including captain Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon.

Nigeria will face Mexico at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Saturday, 28 May before squaring off against Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey on Thursday 2 June.

Eight home-based players, including goalkeepers Adewale Adeyinka and Ojo Olorunleke, defender Ibrahim Buhari, and forwards Victor Mbaoma and Ishaq Rafiu were also included in the 30-man list released by Salisu Yusuf- the assistant coach.

However, only 25 players will make the final list for the tour, which is preparatory to next month’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sierra Leone in Abuja (9th June) and São Tomé & Príncipe in Marrakech, Morocco (13th June).
