Neymar Opens Up About Relationship with Mbappé: “He Was Not Annoying, Just a Little Jealous”
Brazilian superstar Neymar has shed light on his relationship with Kylian Mbappé during their time together at Paris Saint-Germain. In an interview with Brazilian legend Romário, Neymar shared candid details about their dynamic, revealing how the arrival of Lionel Messi altered things between him and the French forward.
“Mbappé was not annoying! When Messi came, I think he became a little jealous,” Neymar explained, laughing as he reflected on their time together.
The Brazilian recounted how he initially took on a mentor-like role with Mbappé, helping him adapt and grow into one of the world’s top players. “He was a boy that in the beginning was key. I used to call him ‘Golden Boy.’ I spoke to him, played around with him, and told him he’d be one of the best. I always helped, always had conversations with him,” Neymar said.
However, things started to shift after Messi joined PSG in 2021. Neymar described how the dynamic changed, jokingly attributing it to jealousy. “When Leo arrived, he became a little jealous. He didn’t want to share me with anyone! [laughs] That’s how the fights started, the change in behaviour,” he added.
Neymar also admitted to occasional disagreements with Mbappé but emphasized that they stemmed from a place of passion and competitiveness rather than hostility. “I had my things with him, we had a little fight,” he said, without going into specific details.
The trio of Neymar, Messi, and Mbappé formed one of the most star-studded attacking lines in football history during their time together at PSG, but their chemistry on and off the pitch was often the subject of speculation. Neymar’s comments provide a rare glimpse into the personal dynamics of the team’s superstar players.
Now at Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, Neymar looks back on those moments with humor and understanding, while Mbappé now plays for Real Madrid in the Spanish capital.
