“People want to see us,” Portugal’s Vitinha says
Ahead of Portugal’s Euro 2024 opener against Czech Republic, midfielder Vitinha underscored the importance of the team, including 39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo.
Members of the Portuguese team come into the continental event in fine fettle. Vitinha, 24, helped PSG to a domestic double, Bernardo Silva won a domestic double with Man City and Bruno Fernandes inspired Man United to FA Cup success.
Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, who turns 40 next February, scored 35 goals and registered 11 assists in 31 league games for Al Nassr in the just-concluded season.
Vitinha told Omasports that fans are now eager to see them play at the Euros and also underlined Ronaldo’s importance to the team.
“I think the most important thing to underline is that people want to see us,” he said.
“It really makes a difference for us and course of Cristiano Ronaldo plays a big part in that and all of us feel that he has an important role and it is a privilinge to work with him.”
Portugal, champions in 2016, will face Czech Republic on Tuesday, 18 June.
