Nigeria’s U-17 football team, the Golden Eaglets lost 1-0 to Morocco in their second game of this year’s tournament in Algeria.
Nigeria and Morocco won their first game after beating Zambia and South Africa respectively.
The young Moroccan team took the lead as early as the 2nd minute through an own goal from Eaglets defender Tochukwu Ogboji.
Eaglets pushed to fight back, first through Abubakar Abdullahi who was sent on goal from a pass by Emmanuel Micheal, but the young player blasted his shot over the bar.
The West African side continued to mount pressure in search of an equalizer and saw another opportunity wasted by Nigeria’s man of the match in their previous game Yahaya Lawali.
The lone goal ensures Morocco are top of the table with six points and through to the last eight of the competition.
The Eaglets will aim for maximum points in their next game against South Africa to guarantee a quarterfinal spot, while Morocco will endeavor to hold onto their top spot when they play against Zambia.
The best four teams at this tournament will represent Africa at the U-17 World Cup later this year.
