“You get it late or you get it early, but the aim is to score early,” Leverkusen’s Frimpong says
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Jeremie Frimpong says his side’s aim is always to score earlier in the match and close out games comfortably, but football is quite unpredictable.
Leverkusen have put together an unbelievable run this season and are on course to win the German Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal, and the Europa League, where they face West Ham in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
However, in recent games, Leverkusen have had to toil to secure wins, notably scoring twice very late in the game against Hoffenheim two weeks back to keep their unbeaten run going.
Speaking with Omasports ahead of their clash with West Ham, Frimpong said situations where teams have to rally from behind happen in football.
“In football the aim of the game is to score,” the 23-year-old Dutch said. “Situations like this happen in football where you get a goal late, sometimes you get it early. The aim is to score early but you never know what can happen in football.”
Frimpong has played 26 league games for Leverkusen this season, scoring 8 times and delivering 7 assists.
