Istanbul Basaksehir have fined Israeli midfielder Eden Karzev following his social media post in support of his compatriots being held hostage in Gaza.

The Turkish Super Lig club have also sent the player out on loan to Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv following disciplinary proceedings.

On Instagram, Karzev had shared the slogan calling to “Bring them home now” in reference to the hostages.

Basaksehir said his post had “violated the sensitive values of our country”.

The incident follows Sagiv Jehezkel also returning home to Israel from Turkey after making a gesture of solidarity with hostages in Gaza.

Jehezkel, who signed for Antalyaspor in September, was celebrating an equaliser in a Turkish Super Lig match on Sunday when he held up his bandaged hand that read “100 days. 7/10”.

The bandage also included a star of David.
