Defender Omeruo attributes Super Eagles victory to coach’s tactical changes
Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has attributed Nigeria’s crucial 1-0 win against Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations to the tactical changes coach Jose Peseiro made.
Nigeria bounced back from their draw against Equatorial Guinea to take a huge step toward the knockout stage. They are second in Group A, behind leaders Equatorial Guinea who beat Guinea Bissau 4-2 earlier on Thursday.
“We give it to the coaches, because change of tactics helped us,” Omeruo said while speaking to reporters after the game.
“The coach told us before the game that if we had kept a clean sheet in the first game, we would have won by 1. So it was important to keep a clean sheet.
”We scored the penalty and we were solid behind.”
Nigeria, whose four points could already be enough to see the three-time winners through, face Guinea Bissau in their final Group A fixture and Omeruo says the Super Eagles have their sights set on victory.
“It is not going to be easy but we have to come out to fight to the end and win and try to top the group.”
