Victor Boniface withdraws from Super Eagles AFCON squad

Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has withdrawn from Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad due to a groin injury.

The 23-year-old is expected to return to Germany, where he will begin treatment for the injury.

The injury is expected to keep him out for up to six weeks.

Boniface sustained the injury during one of the team’s training sessions in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

A decision is expected to be made on his replacement soon.

Boniface has been in superb form this season for Bayer Leverkusen – helping his side stay top of the German top-division. He’s the club’s highest-goal scorer so far this season with 10.
