Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes says a close title race good for Bundesliga

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has said a close race for the Bundesliga title will be good the league.

Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen 3-0 on Saturday to reopen a two-point lead over Bayern Munich, who have won the league title in each of the last 11 seasons, at the top of the league table.

Many feel that the German top division isn’t as competitive given Bayern Munich’s decade-long dominance but Leverkusen are currently posting a credible challenge.

Answering a question from Omasports, who was reporting from the Weserstadion in Werder Bremen, Rolfes said: “My take is that we can compete with them [Bayern Munich] and try to make it interesting. It will be good for Bundesliga – that’s all I can say.

“We are a good team, and with good effort, we can focus on the way.”
