In three league games during the month, Boniface found the net in the Matchday 7 derby defeat of Cologne and teed up a strike for the league leaders in their 2-1 win over Wolfsburg. That gave him 10 goal involvements before Matchday 10 and makes him the most prolific contributor to the lightning start Xabi Alonso’s team have made.
He had 15 attempts on goal during the month – a league-high – taking his tally to 54 for the campaign, well ahead of Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane (36) who has the next-most attempts across the German top flight. To cap off his October, Boniface also scored his maiden international goal for Nigeria, having only made his debut in September.
