Napoli forward Osimhen apologizes to coach Rudi Garcia & teammates after touchline reaction
Victor Osimhen has tendered an apology to manager Rudi Garcia and his Napoli teammates after an angry reaction in Napoli’s goalless draw with Bologna on Sunday.
The Nigeria international missed a penalty in the stalemate before he was substituted in the closing stages of the game.
But as he left the pitch, Osimhen looked furious with Garcia and held up two fingers to Napoli’s head coach in an apparent suggestion that more than one striker should be on the pitch with the team still needing a goal.
When asked about Osimhen’s furious reaction, Garcia said after Napoli’s draw: ‘Even the greatest players in the history of football miss penalties.
‘As for when he went off, we talked about that, what I say to my players remains in the locker room.
‘It is a positive that players are not happy when they come off, just as it can happen that I am not happy with their performances. It is a large squad, I want to use them all.’
Osimhen said, in dressing room speech, that he was overreacting as he always wants to win. The club also confirmed confidence in Rudi Garcia but positive results are needed.
Napoli won the Serie A last season, but they have started the new season rather poorly. They have only 8 points from 5 games so far and are on a three-game winless run.
