Real Sociedad’s Sadiq Umar unhappy with Champions League draw against Inter
Nigeria and Real Sociedad forward Sadiq Umar expressed disappointment following his side’s 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in their Champions League group stage opener on Wednesday.
Sociedad led inside the opening four minutes through Braiz Mendez and were on course for a win before Inter – last season’s runners-up – scored the equalizer in the 87th minute through Lautaro Martinez.
“I wasn’t happy after the game, we were winning 1-0 and then I came in and then they scored a last minute goal – you know it pains a lot,” Umar, who came on in the 72nd minute for his Champions League debut, told Omasports after the match in San Sebastian.
Real Sociedad looked the more dominant side for most of the game, their first Champions group-stage appearance in a decade and Inter will be grateful for their rivals’ misses in front of goal.
“We just have to look forward to the next game. We have one point, which is also good but I felt we could have got the three points,” the 26-year-old Nigerian added.
Umar and Sociedad face Red Bull Salzburg next on October 3. Salzburg currently top the group after their 2-0 win against Benfica.
