Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi is hoping the London club can finish inside the top-four in the Premier League this season.

Obi, who played for Chelsea from 2006-2017, winning the Champions League in 2012, made an emotional return to Stamford Bridge alongside other Chelsea legends for a charity match with Bayern Munich.

Chelsea, who last won the Premier League in 2016, have had dry spells recently. They finished 12th last season. This season, they have only four points from four games. But Mikel feels the team will come good.

“As a Blue, I would hope so,” the 36-year-old Nigerian said, when asked-post match-if Chelsea can finish in the top-four. “But if you look at the other teams Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, Tottenham – they’ve invested massively and they’ve got really good players.

“It’s a tough one this year but I hope we can be able to do it. If we don’t do it this year definitely next year. I’m pretty sure they will come good. I think the coach is a really good manager he also needs time and once they all start to work together and gel together we’ll start winning games easily.”

Chelsea face Bournemouth Sunday afternoon and Mauricio Pochettino and his men will try to return to winning ways.
