Paul Onuachu ‘devastated’ after move away from Southampton collapses
Nigeria forward Paul Onuachu is reportedly devastated after his move away from English side Southampton collapsed.
Onuachu left Genk for Southampton in January this year in a 3-year deal worth €18million – after hitting an impressive 85 goals in 134 appearances for the Belgian top-flight side.
However, the 29-year-old’s move to England has not gone as planned. He was used sparingly as Southampton got relegated last season.
This season, he’s made only one appearance for the Saints – against Gillingham in the EFL Cup.
There were talks about Onuachu leaving Southampton during the transfer window, with a possible return to Genk on the table. Ligue 1 side Metz were also linked on deadline day but none of that materialized.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, the deal is now off. The Belgian transfer window closes on the 6th of September. Still, the deal will not happen as none of the parties have agreed on a deal, and Tavolieri say the Super Eagles striker is devastated.

Onuachu – who’s made 19 appearances for Nigeria since his debut in 2019, was not invited by Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro for Nigeria’s Afcon qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe.
