PSG chief Al-Khelaifi happy to face AC Milan in Champions League
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is relishing facing Italian giants AC Milan after both teams were drawn in the same group for this season’s Champions League.
PSG and AC Milan were placed in Group F alongside Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund and Premier League side Newcastle United.
The group has been dubbed the ‘Group of Death’ given the strength of the opponents.
Speaking after the tournament’s draw in Monaco, Al-Khelaifi, expressing his feelings after drawing Milan, said: “We are in the Champions League, the best competition in the world where the best clubs play.
“If you play this competition you have to be ready to face the best and Milan are one of the best clubs in the world with a very important history, that they have a great team and it will be nice to come and play at San Siro where we haven’t played yet.”
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will finally return to San Siro as well after his controversial exit, while Theo Hernandez, Olivier Giroud and Maignan will face off against a few of their French international team-mates. Theo will also face his brother, Lucas.
“Will it be a difficult night for Donnarumma when he returns to San Siro? Well it could be for him, but also for their goalkeeper? I think everything remains within the normality of a match and nothing more.
“The players, the coach, they love to play the big matches. I always take the positive. We must now be obligated, the staff, the players, the fans, to be ready for this group. This means that we have to work harder, give everything.
“I feel in the last three matches that we have played, we are really on the right track. The style of play, the coach… I am sure that we will improve. The players will improve, physically and technically. We are an ambitious club, we will work, byt for me it is about taking it match by match, step by step.”
