Super Falcons goalie Nnadozie Chiamaka credits mother’s support for career success
Super Falcons goalkeeper Nnadozie Chiamaka has opened up about the significant influence her mother had on her football career.
In an interview with Osasu Obayiuwana after Nigeria’s advancement to the round of 16 in the Fifa Women’s World Cup, Chiamaka expressed her gratitude, saying, “It is thanks to my mum, that I have a career. She really stood by me.”
Chiamaka revealed the immense support her mother provided, even when faced with opposition from her father.
“Sometimes, when I went to play football, she had to tell lies to my Dad that she had sent me on an errand, so he would not know I was playing, as he was against it. She would say I had gone to my aunt’s house or something like that, just to protect me.”
The 22-year-old goalkeeper acknowledged her mother’s exceptional dedication and emphasized, “Not every mum would do what she has done, so that I can play football. I really appreciate her.”
Currently playing for Paris FC in France, Chiamaka is determined to continue her outstanding performance and will be guarding the net when Nigeria faces England on Monday for a spot in the quarterfinals.
