Osimhen hails Peseiro, believes Portuguese can lead Super Eagles to Afcon glory
Star forward Victor Osimhen has thrown support and praised Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro despite the Portuguese facing criticism.
Peseiro took over as coach of the Nigerian national team in May last year. He recently led the Super Eagles to the Nations Cup finals in Ivory Coast next year but there’s been talks about whether the 63-year-old should be retained or dismissed. Since taking over, Peseiro has won four of nine matches, losing the other five.
To boot, the NFF President Ibrahim Gusau recently fuelled speculations by saying he will let fans decide if the Portuguese should stay on as manager.
Osimhen, however, is confident in Peseiro’s ability to lead the squad to great heights.
“The coach is tactically sound and he is in control of the Super Eagles squad, which is very, very important,” Osimhen, who’s scored 15 goals in 25 appearances for Nigeria, told Wazobia FM Radio Lagos. “He knows what he wants.
“We have a great squad to do well,” the 24-year-old added. “I am proud of the team and we fight for the team because it is a privilege to play for Nigeria.
“We expect greatness, we will aim for the trophy.”
The Super Eagles are three-time Afcon winners, with their most-recent triumph in 2013.
