West Ham has strongly condemned the actions of “a small number of fans” after Fiorentina’s Cristiano Biraghi was struck by an object thrown from the stands during the Europa Conference League final in Prague. Biraghi was left bloodied as cups and other items were hurled while he was taking a corner. In response, West Ham expressed that such actions have no place in football.

Prior to the match, trouble had already ensued as Czech police reported that 16 individuals were arrested following an incident at a bar. It was revealed that Italian fans had attacked West Ham supporters, resulting in injuries to three people.

West Ham emphasized that the fans’ behavior within the Fortuna Arena does not align with the values of the club or the vast majority of its supporters. The statement further noted that the fans had demonstrated impeccable conduct during their time in European competitions over the past two seasons. The club pledged its cooperation with the authorities in identifying the culprits, stating that anyone identified would face an indefinite ban, preventing them from entering London Stadium and traveling with the club.

During the first half, as Biraghi received treatment for his head injury, a public announcement urged supporters to cease throwing objects onto the pitch and to respect the players and officials.

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano provided an update on Biraghi’s condition, revealing that the player had suffered a deep cut at the back of his neck requiring stitches.

Despite the unfortunate incident, West Ham ended their 43-year trophy drought as Jarrod Bowen scored a last-minute goal to secure victory over Fiorentina in the final.
