Lionel Messi to join Inter Miami
Argentinian football legend Lionel Messi will be joining Inter Miami, an American team, following his departure from Paris St-Germain, the French champions.
Despite receiving a more lucrative offer from Al-Hilal, a Saudi Arabian side, Messi has opted for the Miami deal, which involves collaborations with renowned brands like Adidas and Apple.
This marks the first time the iconic Barcelona player will be competing outside of Europe.
Although Messi desired a return to Barcelona this summer, the financial restrictions imposed by La Liga for the upcoming season made it impossible for the ambitious plan to materialize.
During his time in France, Paris St-Germain secured the Ligue 1 title in both seasons Messi played for them. However, their Champions League campaign ended in the round of 16, leading to mixed perceptions of his stint in the country.
In his tenure with Paris St-Germain, Messi scored 32 goals in 75 games, finishing the most recent season with 16 goals and 16 assists in Ligue 1.
As his two-year contract concludes this summer, both parties agreed to part ways, especially after Messi’s two-week suspension in May for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia.
