Just three days after scoring the title-winner for Napoli that ended a 33-wait, Victor Osimhen has also surpassed former Liberia striker George Weah’s record for the African player with the highest number of goals in the Italian top-flight history.

The Nigerian moves ahead of the former AC Milan striker after scoring the winner in Napoli’s first game since winning the title, a 1-0 victory over Florentina at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

He has managed 23 goals in Serie A this season more than any African player has ever scored in one Italian top-flight season.

Former Cameroon Striker Samuel Eto’o previously held the record with 21 goals he scored for Inter Milan in the 2009-10 season.

Osimhen has now scored 47 league goals since moving to Italy, and one more ahead of George Weah’s record of 46 goals for an African player with the highest number of goals in Italian top-flight history.
