Brazil’s football legend nickname ‘Pele’ has officially entered the dictionary as another term for words like unique, exceptional, or distinctive.
The icon died at the age of 82 after a long battle with illness and was widely regarded as the greatest of all time.
A Portuguese-language Michaelis dictionary, one of the most famous in Brazil has entered ‘Pele’ to its online edition.
Pele still holds the record as the only player to win three World Cups and played a prominent role during those years of Brazil’s dominant era in football.
He scored a record 1281 goals during a career that spanned over twenty years playing for Santos in his home country, Brazil’s national team, and New York Cosmos in the United States.
The entry read “pe.le adj. That or someone exceptional or distinctive from the others, just like Pele, who is widely regarded as an exceptional athlete.
