Argentine forward Taty Castellanos scored four goals as Girona claim a shock 4-2 victory over Real Madrid in round 31 of the Spanish LA Liga.
Real Madrid were missing several players for the midweek trip to the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi in Girona, with both striker Karim Benzema and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois among the casualties left at home.
The home side opened the scoring as early as the 12th minute of the match after Castellanos met a cross inside the box and the 24-year-old powered a header down into the middle of the net to beat the stand-in Madrid goalkeeper Lunin.
Castellanos doubled Girona’s advantage in the 24th minute before Vinicius Junior scored in the 34th minute from a close-range header to make the scoreline 2-1 going into halftime.
The home side restored their two-goal advantage after a minute into the second half after Castellanos again met a beautiful pass from Yan Couto inside the box and the Argentine slotted the ball into the net to complete his hat-trick.
Real Madrid are still eleven points behind the leaders Barcelona having played a game more, with a Copa del Rey final to still come and a Champions League semifinal date with Manchester City are their realistic pathways to win a trophy this season.
