Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has revealed Chelsea legend Didier Drogba to be his idol. Osimhen, who also turns out for the Nigeria Super Eagles, is a sought-after striker at the moment.
The prolific forward has been on the radar of top European clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United, who are looking for strikers in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Osimhen’s 21 goals in 26 games across all competitions has helped them in their quest to conquer Italy and Europe, with Napoli well-positioned in this year’s Champions League too.
Osimhen gave a press conference to foreign media after being named the best foreign Athlete in Italy. He revealed that he looked up to Drogba while growing up. The Ivorian made a name for himself as one of the greatest African players ever during his time at Chelsea football club.
“I grew up watching Didier Drogba. I was advised by a big brother of mine to watch and learn a few things from him and add to my game.
“It’s been really helpful for me. I watched a lot of his games before he retired and realized that he did many extraordinary things that have helped me become the kind of player I’m today”.
The former Charleroi hitman also mentioned another African legend in Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o and Polish forward Robert Lewandowski as other guys he took cue from.
He added: “I also draw inspiration from Robert Lewandowski and Samuel Eto’o when he was playing. The success these guys achieved in their careers is what I look to emulate and even surpass”.
