A video had surfaced on the internet during the past weekend showing Nigerian attacker, Victor Osimhen in a birthday party in Lagos.

The video was seen on the social media shortly after the Napoli player was announced to have tested positive for COVID-19.

Reactions have since trailed the video, with fans of the club and Nigerian football fans talking about the party he allegedly threw.

Osimhen, in an exclusive chat with Omasports said he was surprised to test positive for the virus and read the reports making the rounds.

He said he never organised a party as stated by some people, and explained what transpired on the said day he was seen in an event.

”Before I visited Nigeria, I had told my sister I won’t be celebrating my birthday. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind because of my injury,” he said.

”On that particular day, I’d been asleep for about six hours. Right after I woke up, my sister asked me to come downstairs. In my head, I thought I just wanted to be presented with a frame, like families and friends do for their loved ones, and I wasn’t aware.”

”If you check what I put on, it was the Super Eagles training jersey. I will not wear that on my birthday. I’d not dress as casually as that. I could celebrate my birthday in other ways too but I wasn’t in a good mood.”

Osimhen further explained that he didn’t spend beyond ten minutes at the event, and he only stepped out because of his respect he has for his sister.

“I got downstairs and they were playing music, gospel music. I didn’t spend up to 10 minutes before my elder brother called me back upstairs. I didn’t throw nor organised a party.

”After I was declared positive for COVID-19, I called my family and asked them to get tested. They all did and tested negative.”

He also said he has tendered apologies to his coach, fans and teammates and everyone is on the same page with him.

”It was the musician who put the video online. I guess it’s to promote his work. I have nothing to do with the organising of the party. I knew nothing about it.

”I’ve apologised to the fans and my teammates and I’m good. I’m just claiming my innocence. It was never planned by me.”
