Pharaohs beat Cameroon on penalties to reach Afcon final
Seven-time African champions, Egypt advanced to the final of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after beating tournament hosts Cameroon 3-1 on penalties following a full-time draw.
Egypt will face Senegal, who are seeking their first Nations Cup title, in the final on Sunday.
Both teams had played out a full-time draw in regulation time and kept it goalless through extra-time to send the match to a penalty shootout.
Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar converted the opening kick, but the Indomitable Lions would miss their next three to fall short on home soil.
Egypt will hope they can clinch a record-extending eight Afcon title when they face 2019 runners-up Senegal in the title match on Sunday.
Cameroon, meanwhile, will face Burkina Faso in a third-place encounter on Saturday.
