Hosts Cameroon end Gambia’s fairytale run to reach Afcon semis

Nations Cup hosts Cameroon defeated debutants Gambia 2-0 in Yaounde to advance to the semifinals of the continental event.

The Gambia, ranked 150 in the world – the lowest-ranked team in this edition – had put together solid performances to reach the quarterfinals in their first-ever Afcon appearance, but the Indomitable Lions proved too much for them on the day.

A second-half brace from Karl Toko Ekambi secured the comfortable win for Cameroon, who will now face either Egypt or Morocco for a place in the final.

Cameroon are aiming for their sixth title and first since 2017.
