Former Nigeria international Chinedu Obasi has said the Super Eagles can stop Mohamed Salah if they work together, adding that “nobody should try to take all the glory.”

Nigeria will begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title when they take on the Pharaohs of Egypt in a group stage clash on Tuesday.

The Egyptians, who have won the competition a record seven times, have the best player in the world at the moment, Mohamed Salah, in their ranks. But Obasi says, while Salah is deadly, ‘he can’t do anything on his own.’

“Everyone knows Mo Salah and how deadly he can be in front of goal but he can’t do anything on his own,” Obasi said while speaking exclusively with Omasports ahead of the much-anticipated clash in Cameroon. “I think if Nigeria can play as a team [they can succeed].

Chinedu Obasi made 26 appearances for Nigeria from 2005 to 2011 and was part of the team that claimed Bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2010.

“It’s about team work, it’s about giving everything and I just think the boys should put their heads together, fight for the country, play like they love to play for the country and give everything they can.

“Do the basic things,” the 35-year-old former Schalke 04 forward continued. “Everyone has a job, nobody should try to take all the glory.”

Nigeria is missing of its stars in Victor Osimhen, Leon Balogun, and the In-form Emmanuel Dennis. But Obasi says the players who will fill in for them “should be able to step up,” and added that Nigerians should take it as an opportunity to know other players.
