Hosts of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon got off to a winning start on home soil with a 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde.

The Burkinabe went ahead first, though, with a Gustavo Sangare strike in the 24th minute. But the Cameroonians, who are seeking a sixth Afcon title, scored twice late in the first half to take the lead.

Captain Vincent Aboubakar converted from the penalty spot in the 40th minute following a VAR review and then scored his second from another penalty on the stroke of half time which was enough to ensure all three points for the Indomitable Lions.

Ethiopia and Cape Verde will lock horns later this night in another Group A clash.
