Afcon 2021: Cape Verde edge 10-man Ethiopia in Yaoundé

Cape Verde claimed a 1-0 win against Ethiopia to begin their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a fine note in Yaounde.
Ethiopia were reduced to 10 men early in the first half after Yared Baye was sent off for a last man foul in the 12th minute. Just before half time, Cape Verde scored the only goal of the game through Julio Tavares.

The header was the West African nation’s first Afcon goal since Heldon Ramos’s strike against Tunisia in 2015.
The Blue Sharks are now joint top in Group A with Cameroon and will face Burkina Faso next.
