Mane ready to ‘trade’ Liverpool trophies for Afcon glory with Senegal
Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has admitted he would ‘trade’ the trophies he’s won at club level just to win the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.
Mane, 29, has a glittering trophy cabinet, containing Champions League, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup wins – all with Liverpool – and Austrian Cup and Austrian Bundesliga wins during his time with Red Bull Salzburg.
In a new advert for New Balance ahead of the tournament, the forward, who was a losing finalist with Senegal in 2019, said he would trade them all for continental glory.
“When I was a kid, they called me Ballonbuwa (ball wizard), but I was always more of a Gaynde (lion): ruthless, explosive, a hunter.
“I have been hunting my whole career, but no matter what I have caught – I am still hungry.
“My people have waited a long time. I would trade it all to win this one. This is my time. The Lion roars.”
Senegal begin their Afcon campaign on Monday against Zimbabwe in a Group B match-up before games against Guinea and Malawi.
