Interim Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen believes Nigeria will need some luck at the Africa Cup of Nations after stating that his players are ready to compete.

The Nations Cup begins 9 January and the Super Eagles will open against Egypt in the group stage two days later before facing Sudan and Guinea-Bissau on the 15th and 19th, respectively.

Eguavoen assured that the Super Eagles will “work hard” as they try to “meet expectations.”

“We respect every team and I believe every team respects Nigeria as well,” Eguavoen said, while speaking with reporters at the Super Eagles camp in Abuja. “So we have to go in there with all our hearts and work hard and make sure we try to meet expectations.

“We will take it game after game. The boys are ready, the federation is ready, Nigerians are ready. The only thing we pray for is luck because luck is a big factor in everything you do in life.

“As far as I’m concerned we will do our best and make the country proud.”

Nigeria will be looking to secure a fourth AFCON title after triumphs in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
