Barca could terminate Umtiti contract

Barcelona could terminate defender Samuel Umtiti’s contract, after negotiations to reduce his salary failed, Sport reports.

The 28-year-old Frenchman did not agree a cut to his £208,000-per-week salary amid the club’s financial struggles.

It was reported during the summer transfer window that the Catalan club issued Umtiti an ultimatum to leave the club or be sacked.

But the player plans on serving out the remaining two years of his contract even if he does not play.

Former manager Koeman did not align with him and Xavi, who’s currently in charge, does not seem to be counting on him either.
