Nigeria international Maduka Okoye says he’s overwhelmed to sign for Premier League club, Watford after sealing a five-and-half year deal with the Hornets which starts on January 1, 2022.

Watford signed the Nigerian goalkeeper from Sparta Rotterdam – although he will remain at the Dutch club on loan until the end of the 2021/2022 season.

“I am overwhelmed to sign for Watford,” the 22-year-old said. “To play in the Premier League is something I’ve been dreaming about since I was a little boy. I can’t wait to get started with the team upcoming season! #22/23.

“I wish the club all the best for the rest of the season.”

Okoye joined Sarta Rotterdam in the summer of 2020 and won Sparta’s Player of the Season award last term for his superb efforts as he helped his side claim an eighth-place finish in the league.

This season, he has started between the sticks for the Dutch club in all 12 of their Eredivisie games so far.

On the international scene, he’s made 13 appearances for Nigeria since his debut on 13 October 2019.

Okoye will join his national teammates Emmanuel Dennis, Oghenekaro Etebo and William Troost-Ekong – who are currently with the Hornets – when the 2022/2023 season begins.
