Al Kuwait and Mikel Obi have parted ways, the club announced in a post on Instagram on Thursday.

The club simply announced a termination of the player’s contract but didn’t give a reason why.

Obi, 34, signed for the Kuwaiti side in July from Stoke City and played only two matches for the club.

The Nigerian midfielder had joined Stoke in August 2020 from Trabzonspor- where his contract was also terminated after refusing to play due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Obi, who’s now a free agent, spent 11 successful years at Chelsea from 2006 to 2017, notably winning the Premier League twice, the FA Cup three times and the Champions League in the 2011/2012 season.

With Nigeria, Mikel Obi won the African Cup of Nations in 2013.
