‘I was sure the goals would come,’ Ballon d’Or nominee Mount says after hattrick for Chelsea
Mason Mount scored a hattrick as Chelsea soundly defeated Norwich 7–0 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday, and says “he was sure the goals would come.”
The 22-year-old midfielder, who’s been nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or award, had not scored for the Blues this season, but all that changed inside the opening eight minutes of the game as he netted a sublime strike. He would go on to complete his hattrick late in the second half – the second coming from the penalty spot.
The last time Mount scored a goal for Chelsea was back in May – against Real Madrid in the Champions League semis.
Speaking after the match, he said: “Before the game I put pressure on myself to get on the scoresheet as it’s been quite a long time, then three come in the same game.”
“I was sure the goals would come and today was the day. The way we played, the way we started, the intensity was so important.”
Chelsea remain top of the Premier League table with 22 points. Liverpool, who are second with 18 points, will try to keep the pressure at the top when they face Man United on Sunday.
