Mbappe taught me a lot on how to be “French” – Neymar
Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar Jr has showered praise on his teammate Kylian Mbappe, calling him the club’s “golden boy” and describing how the French footballer has helped him adapt to life in Paris.
His high praise for Mbappe has further added weight to speculations that the Brazilian could sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 champions.
Neymar joined PSG in 2017, and with his contract set to expire in 2022, there have been speculations that he is looking a possible return to Barcelona. It has also been reported that intense negotiations are taking place in order to keep the striker in Paris until the summer of 2026.
Now, his glowing praise for teammate Mbappe has got many wondering if the Brazilian intends to sign a new deal and stay on in PSG.
“He taught me a lot about the way ‘to be French’. He explained to me the French mentality. I owe a large part of my adaptation to him, and, therefore, my happiness to be here,” Goal.com quoted Neymar as saying to France Football magazine.
“First of all, I was very touched by the man he is. Kylian is very considerate, always happy, polite and kind to everyone. He is a very beautiful person. That’s why we’ve got along so well since our first contact.
“Then, of course, I had the opportunity to watch him train, to observe his speed, his dribbling repertoire, his intelligence and to see his humility to keep evolving. There, I said to myself: ‘he is our golden boy!’” the 29-year-old said about his attacking partner.
“Speed alone doesn’t mean anything. You have to be smart to use it properly, and Kylian is. He is not only very smart and fast, but he also has a huge repertoire of dribbling,” he added.
PSG will look to progress to the Champions League semifinal as they take on Bayern Munich in the second leg quarterfinal on Tuesday after defeating the Bundesliga champions 3-2 in the first leg match last week.
