Newcastle-Tottenham halted due to medical emergency

Newcastle United’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park was halted in the 40th minute because of a medical emergency in the crowd.

Both teams were told to leave the pitch by the referee just before half time with Spurs leading 2-1 as medics attended to the supporter.

The fans in the stands had attracted the attention of the referee and the players to what was happening.

Thousands of people in the stands were whistling and waving their arms and pointing, it was only then that the referee clocked that something was happening in the stands.

The medical staff of both teams were called on to assist, with the referee taking the players off shortly after.
